Building Rafeq: My Smart Companion Robot
I've just received most of the components needed to start building my new robot: Rafeq (رفيق), an Arabic word that means "Companion."
With this project, I plan to bring together multiple disciplines including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Control Systems.
Rafeq will be a two-wheel self-balancing robot, using PID control theory to maintain stability and balance on just two wheels.
To understand and navigate its environment, the robot will implement SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), enabling it to explore the world autonomously and build a 3D virtual map of its surroundings. This will be achieved using a LiDAR sensor along with a night-vision camera for enhanced perception.
Additionally, the robot will have access to multiple MCP tools, enabling it to perform real-world tasks and interact with external systems.
Rafeq will combine AI agents, embedded systems, robotics, and real-world automation into a single intelligent companion.
